Women in Beer

ABOUT

Boston Beer Company, founded in 1984, is a leading independent craft brewery in the United States, known for brands like Samuel Adams, Dogfish Head, and Truly Hard Seltzer. Beyond brewing exceptional beverages, BBC actively cultivates an inclusive workplace through various Coworker Network Groups that bring employees together around shared identities and interests.

I was tasked with rebranding an internal employee group from "Alewives and Allies" to "Women in Beer," creating a visual identity representing the organization's mission of supporting women's professional development in the beer industry. The challenge was designing a logo that would feel inclusive of all women while maintaining professional standards suitable for internal communications and merchandise.

APPROACH & PROCESS

I researched both historical women brewers and contemporary industry representations, creating a concept map that explored beer imagery and feminine symbolism across literal-to-abstract and casual-to-refined spectrums. This framework generated diverse design directions—from illustrated brewing figures to abstract feminine silhouettes with beer elements and typographic solutions with subtle industry references.

Feedback from women within the organization guided my iterations, helping ensure authenticity while navigating the challenge of representing diverse experiences cohesively. Though my designs weren't ultimately implemented, the project provided valuable insights into inclusive design practices and stakeholder management in corporate settings, reinforcing the importance of iteration and resilience in professional design.
